EVITA details the life, rise and fall of Eva Peron, Argentina's world-famed first lady of the '40s and early '50s. It is packed with such sheer theatrical opulence, it's hard not to react to it. And all that extravagance and razzle-dazzle fits, since the play's subject (as one of its songs affirms) is star quality -- along with the intersection of politics and show business, the secrets and tragedies of celebrity.
